At the moment all racing is in one general handicap fleet, but this can easily have fifteen to twenty boats in it, including ALBACORES and FLYING FIFTEENS  through to WAYFARERS, LASERS and TOPPERS. The COUNTRY PARK is operated by North Lanarkshire District Council who have boat hire at very reasonable prices and many members take advantage of this and join in the races.

                                       Standard Sailing Instructions

1.  All helms and crews will be full members of Strathclyde Loch Sailing Club, except that: a visitor may sail as a guest up to three times only, but will not be credited with a result.   A guest may crew for a member up to three times only and any results will be credited to the member.                                                                                                                                   

2. All competitors will wear adequate personal buoyancy while afloat. 

3. All racing will be governed by "The Racing Rules of Sailing" (R.R.S.), the prescriptions of the RYA, the appropriate class rules and by these sailing instructions.  Exceptions to class rules shall be permitted as the club committee deems appropriate. These exceptions shall apply to club racing only and may be viewed in appendix "A".                                                                                                                               

4. All boats will carry valid Third Party insurance of at least £2,000,000.                                                                                                                           

5. The safety of a boat and her entire management including insurance shall be the sole responsibility of the owner/person in charge who must ensure that the boat and crew are adequate to face the conditions that may arise in the course of the race. Neither these sailing instructions nor any inspection of the boat, limits, or reduces the absolute responsibility for the owner/person in charge for the crew,the boat and her management.                                                                                                                                      

6. Neither the Club nor it's elected committee shall be responsible for any loss, damage,death or personal injury howsoever caused to the owner/person in charge or the crew as a result of their taking part in the race/races. Morover every owner/person in charge warrants the suitability of the boat for the race. 

7. The course will be displayed on the committee boat or at a briefing before the race(course charts are available from the Racing Sec).If the displayed course contains a "Gate" symbol the boats shall pass through the gate on upwind legs only, any boats passing through the gate on the downwind leg faces disqualification. No boat shall sail between the island and the east shore or beyond the limit marks of the family rowing area of the south shore.

8. Marks will be orange cylindrical shapes with identification letters of A,B,C,D,E, F and if necessary unmarked flag buoys may also be used.

9. Races will be started using rule 26, with classes starting at 5 minute intervals. Handicap flag will be "H".

10. The starting line will be between the mast of the committee boat displaying a yellow flag and an outer starting mark, or a flag buoy.

11. The finishing line will be between the mast on the committee boat displaying a yellow flag, the shortened course flag and a nearby mark of the course, or a flag buoy. 

12. The time limit will be 30 minutes for each class . Boats failing to finish within 30 minutes after the first boat finishes will be scored "Did Not Finish".

13. Protests requirements shall be in accordance with rule 16.1(a), except that sub-section (2) shall not apply and written on forms available from the race officer and delivered there within 40 minutes of the last boat finishing. 

14. The low points scoring system rule A2 will apply. In a series, results to count will be half of the total number of completed races in that series. Official Race Officer duty may count as a race sailed and will receive their own average points calculated from their total races sailed. Only one Race Officer duty will count in any one series.

Appendix A.  Replica laser sails, as supplied by Intensity Sails, shall be allowed for Club races, as this sail is a direct copy of a laser sail and differs only in the fabric weight.
